Thresholds
Thresholds are entrances, crossings, borders and beginnings where we leave one way of being and enter another. Thresholds are places of divine transformation and transition. They are all around us, and we are invited to pay more attention to these divine places of crossing.
I have been fascinated by the presence of thresholds for several years now. I have grown more curious about them and have been intentional about blessing the many thresholds in my day and in my experiences. Noticing and blessing these crossings has made me more aware of the spiritual realm and the divine presence of God in everyday mundane tasks. I have also learned to slow down and practice Holy Pausing, which is so good for my own emotional and spiritual health.
I decided to name my practice Thresholds, because it captures the experience of so many and it also captures my theological and theoretical orientation as it relates to the process of healing. Transformation requires that we navigate the many thresholds of life. We must detach from patterns and places that are familiar to us and embrace the unknown.
At Thresholds Counseling, I am most called to the treatment of trauma and all of its sequelae. Imagine a landscape of beauty and opportunities where you could walk whatever pathways you pleased, when suddenly an earthquake shakes the earth and breaks up the ground you once trusted. Traumatic events represent the earthquake and they make it hard to walk your life’s path without confronting cliffs, cracks, crevices and canyons. Thresholds is a safe place to forge new pathways and to experience the ministry of Shalom (where the broken places are integrated). I help clients do the work of exploring their inner worlds so that they can unburden themselves and cross over into new pathways of thinking, experiencing emotions, and behaving. Clients learn to name their stories and get curious about how their stories live in their bodies. I rely on somatic theory, attachment theory, neuroscience research, the Holy Bible, and evidenced-based interventions and modalities to help traumatized, dysregulated and stressed individuals reach their divine potential for healing. Thresholds is a safe, nonjudgmental, compassionate, and sacred place for you to address your trauma, burdens and inner conflicts so that you can cross over to healing.
**Although Thresholds is a faith-based practice, I work with many clients who do not subscribe to a faith context or prefer to have spiritual integration as a part of their clinical care. All are welcome!
